real wedding sneak peek::a modern wedding on the lake shore

When bride Abby contacted me and said she wanted us to help her design  her tented wedding in Holland, I was thrilled, because meeting with her and looking at her inspiration photos, I knew this would be fun!  She had a fantastic color palette of marigold and gray in mind and had already picked out her bridesmaids dresses from anthropologie, so we had some great inspiration! And no wedding is complete without the perfect floral designer, and for this wedding I knew that had to be Modern Day Floral in Grand Rapids. When it comes to unique designs, Jenn at Modern Day Floral can always deliver! With the bride planning from another state, Jenn and I sat down and plotted out our plan of attack…unique and vibrant yellow flowers, sleek white containers, lots of adorable craspedia (those fuzzy little yellow balls of goodness shown below that I’m in love with!) and gorgeous gray tuscano linens from La Tavola. Simply lovely.  And of course, a huge thanks to Kara Purtell who captured it all so beautifully—you can see more photos on her blog!

real wedding sneak peek::lisa+justin

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of seeing another of our full-service weddings come to fruition this summer as we watched Justin+Lisa tied the knot in St. Joseph! Lisa had a beautiful and unique vision, and I was so happy with how it all turned out! Like many couples we work with, Lisa+Justin originally contemplated having a destination wedding in Mexico, but wanted to be surrounded by many of their family and friends who would not be able to travel, so opted to have their destination wedding in Southwest Michigan!

From the beautiful coral garden roses and pearlized shell napkin rings (hand crafted by the bride) to the oversized paper lanterns, elegant silver chiavari chairs and gorgeous La Tavola linens, I loved how this wedding reflected the brides Caribbean beach-chic syle.

Due to scattered showers, we moved the beach ceremony inside to the Krasl Art Center, which was stunning with a mahogany chuppah draped in white fabric and a gorgeous orchid & crystal chandelier by Beikmann Associates Floral! At the reception, Drop35 kept people dancing all night long as guests enjoyed the beautiful evening weather at the Veranda at the Whitcomb—an open-air, lake-view venue in downtown St. Joseph!

All of these gorgeous photos were captured by St. Joseph wedding photographer Ben Pancoast. We had a stellar group of vendos working on this wedding and also have to say thank you to CK Catering, ‘Lil Fox bartending, Davone Simon (cake), Pro Show lighting and All Star Productions video!

Lisa+Justin, thank you for letting us help you plan a beautiful destination wedding in SW Michigan and many wishes for years and years of happiness!

real wedding::jessica+justin’s lake michigan wedding

On Tuesday we shared a sneak peak of Jessica+Justin’s St. Joseph wedding, and today we’ve got a ton of beautiful photos to share from the talented ladies at Jennifer Mayo Studios! I absolutely loved these bridesmaids dresses, and the bright color combo used in the flowers and centerpieces, created by Beikmann Associates—it was such a fun & lively color combo and it perfectly reflected this fun couple! And look at those beautiful sparkling waters of Lake Michigan! You just can’t beat a ceremony on the lake, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous as these 2 tied the knot with Rev. Bonnie Corondan!

brittany+hachem::a modern wedding on lake michigan

Brittany+Hachem had a gorgeous beach wedding in September, and I’m so glad we could be a part of their special day! The bride and groom are both designers with a clean and modern style, and their wedding definitely reflected that. The reception took place on the beach with natural wood chairs and a bamboo chuppah adorned with white paper lanterns. The reception was held at the Veranda at the Whitcomb overlooking Lake Michigan, where tables were covered in gray linens, accented by a trio of white vases of hydrangea, snapdragons and a small potted succulents. White paper lanterns were strung across the dance floor for some beautiful ambient lighting.

One of my favorite things about this wedding, were all of the small details that were spread throughout the wedding. Each table was named after a dance along with a graphic of the dance steps, escort cards were arranged in white antique frames, a candy buffet was arranged with all homemade baked good, a beautiful wooden book was screen printed with the couples monogram to use as a guest book, and above all—every item was personalized with the couples very unique monogram which was the silhouette of a dancing boy and girl (you can see it in the framed bar menu and the guest book cover, both pictured above!)

real wedding:: a modern beach wedding at the veranda at the whitcomb, st. joseph

On September 19th, we assisted with the Michigan beach wedding of Brittany+Hachem at The Veranda at The Whitcomb in St. Joseph.  They started the day with a gorgeous beach ceremony on Lake Michigan with beautiful natural wood chairs, a bamboo chuppah adorned with mini paper lanterns, crafted by the couple, and acoustic guitar music. It was a beautiful day and nothing short of the perfect beach wedding.

The cocktail hour began at the Veranda at the Whitcomb, and because the bandshell across the street was hosting a concert for another hour, we decided not to fight it with our own cocktail music, and enjoyed the playings of the jazz band that drifted in.  The bar served homemade Sangria made by the brides father (I’m told it was fabulous!) and mojitos, some of the couples favorites. A candy bar  boasted from-scratch goods by the bride and her mother, including homemade rice krispie treats, marshmallows, popcorn balls and caramels, complete with adorable tags and monogrammed bags for the guests to fill and take home. A delicious dinner was served family-style by CK Catering, and as always, it tasted phenomenal and the service was wonderful!

Each table was named after a dance–the rhumba, the cha cha, the running man— complete with a graphic of the footwork to go with it.  Beautiful white paper lanterns were hung across the Veranda, and the tables were adorned with beautiful gray linens and a trio centerpiece of handrangea, snapdragons and succulents in sleek white modern vases.  Such a beautiful, special day—thanks to Brittany+Hachem and their families for allowing us to share in it! I will post some professional photos from their fabulous photographer Miriam Doan when they’re ready!

southwest michigan venue with a view::the veranda at the whitcomb

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dave Krock, one of the owners of the Whitcomb building in downtown St. Joseph. They are opening their outdoor veranda to host events in 2009, and the view is absolutely gorgeous.

(views from The Veranda at The Whitcomb on the bluff)

For those of you unfamiliar with the local area, the downtown area of St. Joseph is on a bluff overlooking the lake and the river and it’s filled with quaint shops and delicious restaurants.The Veranda at The Whitcomb overlooks the lake, with a beautiful view of the lighthouse and river. It’s literally across the street from the Bandshell, which I’ve blogged about before, and is a wonderful ceremony location. The Veranda at The Whitcomb can seat up to 250 guests. As you can see from the picture below, the venue is open-air, but has ample covering in case of inclement weather. There are also beautiful gardens on the far side, perfect for a garden-style cocktail hour, bridal portraits, or mingling with guests.

(a community big band dance hosted at The Veranda at The Whitcomb)

The on-site catering and beverage service is provided by CK Catering. They recently revamped their website and included a ton of great pictures. They do beautiful presentations and are amazing to work with. The combination of CK Catering and The Veranda at The Whitcomb is one I’m very excited about, and I was thrilled to hear about some of their upcoming plans to expand the events area, which sound absolutely incredible. If you’re in the market for a reception location, you can check it out at the corner of Port Street and Ship Street!
